Tyler, Texas (KETK) — One man is arrested and charged with robbery after he allegedly maces a family and steals their car Thursday night in Tyler.
Around 9:25 p.m. the Tyler Police Deptartment responded to the report of a Robbery at the Super One grocery store at 3828 Troup Highway. While en route officers were told the suspect, David Vanausdal, 23, from Tyler, fled southbound on Troup Highway in a silver Toyota Solara.
Once on scene officers learned the victim met Vanausdal to sell him the Toyota Solara. During the transaction the victim realized Vanausdal was attempting to fraudulently purchase the vehicle, at which point a struggle ensued.
According to the victim, Vanausdal used mace and forcibly removed him and his family from the vehicle before leaving the scene in the vehicle.
Later, a Smith County Deputy notified officers that Vanausdal had been spotted at a Food Fast convenience store on Highway 64 West.
Officers arrived at the convenience store and discovered Vanausdal was still in the victim's vehicle.
Vanausdal was arrested for Robbery and transported to the Smith County jail.
