Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — The Lufkin Police Department is searching for a person or persons who reportedly shot a stolen gun at a car late Monday night.
At around 10:53 p.m., the people who reported the shooting told police they were uninjured and their car was not damaged. The complainants said they think the alleged shooter(s) may have mistaken them for others and fled the scene when they realized they were not the intended target.
Officers found the gun, a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 caliber, in a nearby field. The gun was previously reported as stolen to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities will fingerprint the gun and continue with the investigation.
