(KETK) Henderson Tx — Tuesday night Henderson ISD approved a property tax rate increase, in order to pay for the construction of a new middle school.
The property tax rate will rise nine cents, from a dollar-eighteen to a dollar-twenty seven.
But it's something school officials say the community desperately needs, for safety reasons, as well as population.
The current middle school has more than 40 entrances, making it difficult to keep the campus secure, and as of now, the campus is near full capacity.
But the new building will be able to hold around 1,000 students, giving the district more than enough room to grow.
The people of Henderson voted to pass the 27-million dollar bond in May, and the campus is expected to be competed in August of 2015.
