Tyler, Texas — August 28, 2013 marks the 50 year anniversary for the Civil Rights movement. On this day, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made his famous "I have a Dream" speech at the march on Washington.
On this day, more than 250,000 Americans listened on at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as King took a stance against racism. Years later, and Americans are still coming together to hear what Martin Luther King Jr. has to say.
The Tyler Public Library held a viewing of this speech and it brought back a lot of memories for some. One of the attendees, Jeffery Williams, says he hopes this speech will encourage others like it did for him when he heard it the first time at age six.
Williams says, "I've been able to go to college and be in positions that others haven't, but I still recognize that there are people that don't have a hope."
