Longview, Texas (KETK) — While most of East Texas saw sunny skies this labor day weekend.... storms swept across the Longview area late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
But not all was lost ... as Longview residents still headed out to enjoy their holiday.
"We were going to play earlier but we are teeing off at 12."
J.R. Bryant and his friends planned to spend labor day morning on the golf course but mother nature had other plans.
Heavy rained dropped into the area as thunderstorms moved across Longview Monday morning.
The downpour caused two Longview intersections to be closed for a couple hours as high water made it impossible for drivers to get through.
The streets were not the only one impacted by the rain as the weather took a toll on some area businesses.
"Today somewhat we had a really good weekend usually on the day of the holiday people will rest up and try to get ready for the next day so if it weren't raining people would still probably be out and about."
But Bryant and his friends were not going to let the weather ruin their day.
"We initially wanted to play earlier in the morning and have the whole afternoon for family but this is our family the golf course Alpine Golf Course is our home and the folks out here."
"It just delayed me for a little while for a minute or two. It looks like the sun is coming out and i'm looking forward to having a good round today."
