Kilgore, Texas (KETK) — The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Labor Day Campaign ended Monday.
The Kilgore Police Department participated in the nationwide campaign to get drunk drivers off of our roadways by aggressively conducting DWI enforcement. This year’s campaign ran from mid-August through the Labor Day holiday (August 16 - September 2).
The campaign netted 15 DWI arrests by Kilgore Police Officers over the two week period. No alcohol related crashes occurred. Five of the arrests were repeat offenders. Three search warrants were executed due to refusals to provide a specimen of breath or blood. For three of those arrested, who provided a breath specimen, it was shown their alcohol level was twice the legal limit of .08. One arrestee was over three times the legal limit.
The Kilgore Police Department maintains zero tolerance for drunk driving year round. Drunk driving is not a choice, it’s a crime. If you drive drunk in Kilgore, you will be caught, arrested and placed in jail.
