Henderson, Tx (Longview News-Journal) — The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office is fighting more than crime these days — its fighting to keep a Texas law from coming between a K-9 officer and his dog.
Sgt. David Roberts said Tuesday the department is putting K-9 Caro up for public auction Friday because his handler Sgt. Jason Smith resigned from duty.
State law requires any property bought with seized funds — if disposed of or taken out of operation — to be sold at public auction.
It turns out, that includes dogs.
