Nacogdoches, TX (KETK) —
Two Tennessee men were arrested on Thursday after deputies found 10 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of their car.
Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges tells KETK that a deputy pulled the men over for a seat belt violation on Loop 224 and Highway 21 East.
The men in the car gave conflicting statements to the officer and were visibly nervous, so the deputy suspected criminal activity. When he asked to search the vehicle, the driver refused. However, a narcotics detector K-9 conducted a "free-air" search on the car and alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics.
With probable cause, authorities searched the vehicle and found 10 pounds of marijuana hidden in a trash bag in the trunk.
Both men were arrested and taken to the Nacogdoches County jail, charged with Posssession of Marijuana, which is a 3rd degree felony.
The men have been identified as Mario Harvey, 25, and Richard Briars, 27.
