Longview — One of four Republicans hoping to steer the Texas Senate in 2015 brought his 50-city tour and an East Texas accent to Longview on Tuesday.
“This race for lieutenant governor is one of the most important races in Texas,” Palestine native and Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples told a small crowd on the Gregg County Courthouse steps. “And I firmly believe it’s not about the next election, it’s about the next generation.”
Staples, 50, hopes to parlay 18 years of statewide service that began in the Texas House of Representatives into the top spot in the Senate, where he was a member from 2001 to 2007.
