Shreveport, La (KMSS) — One person was taken to a local hospital Friday morning after their car slammed into a school bus in southwest Shreveport. The accident occurred near the intersection of Mansfield Road and Jewella Avenue at around 7:30 a.m.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, a car-- for reasons unknown at this time --was driving north on Mansfield Road into oncoming traffic. The car ended up slamming into the front end of a school bus en route to Summerfield Elementary.
Officials tell KMSS that five students were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Both the driver of bus and car were also taken to a local hospital. The bus driver was taken for back pains, but the female who was driving the car is said to be in critical condition.
The name or age of the critically injured person has not been released. Officials could not say why she was driving in the wrong direction.
The southbound lanes of Mansfield Road were shut down for a short time while debris was cleared, but they have since reopened.
