Longview, Texas (KETK) — Thanks to the help of a local business, a group of East Texas educators are getting the help they need to make their classrooms even better this year.
On Friday morning, David Rooney and his colleagues from SAMS in Longview donated a total of $1,000 in gift certificates to help teachers at Spring Hill Primary with their classroom supplies.
According to Spring Hill Primary Counselor Andrea Irwin, the average teacher spends about $500 out of pocket each year on supplies for the classroom.
The money was split into 20 different gift cards for 20 lucky teachers.
But, the giving didn't stop there. Principal Peggy Mayfield decided to open up her wallet and supply the remaining teachers that were not fortunate enough to receive money with vouchers as well.
