Tyler, Texas (Tyler ISD) — Six Tyler ISD campuses have joined the social network Facebook as part of a pilot program initiated by the District. Austin, Bell, Caldwell and Jack elementary schools, Hubbard Middle School and the TARGET Academy will host campus pages with the goal of expanding communication with the community.
“Facebook is a great way to get information out to a large number of people quickly and to share the great things that are happening in Tyler ISD,” stated Jessica Poe, District Web Design Specialist. “The pages are designed to provide in-the-moment updates, pictures and district or campus news and are available to parents wherever they are.”
The District has had a Facebook page for almost four years now and the campus pages will operate the same way.
Poe explained that principals would use the pages to supplement information posted on the campus websites and sent via newsletters and that the pages were by no means a replacement for current avenues of communication. Facebook is a way to steer people toward more complete information on the websites with links and pictures.
Each page is dedicated to the education of students in Tyler ISD while engaging the community in an open and respectful dialogue.
Comments are welcome so long as they directly relate to our District, schools and activities.
Parents, teachers and anyone with a Facebook account can comment on a page’s post, but posting privileges are reserved for Tyler ISD staff administering the pages.
“It just makes sense to communicate with a platform that our parents already use. Facebook is one way we choose to communicate with parents what is happening at TARGET,” said Katherine Elmore, TARGET Academy Principal. “Parents can’t be present every moment of the day at school, but I can share moments of fun and information with them through Facebook.”
The official page for each campus can be found by searching Facebook for the campus name followed by “Tyler ISD” – for example, T.J. Austin Elementary School – Tyler ISD. The district will monitor the success of these pages for approximately six weeks before moving forward with other campuses.
