Kilgore, Texas (KETK) — Monday marks the 30th anniversary of the Kentucky Fried Chicken murders in Kilgore.
Many East Texans remember September 23, 1983, when armed robbers held up the KFC restaurant.
The only people in the building at the time were restaurant employees.
They were all abducted, taken to a nearby remote location and killed.
Only two men were ever convicted of the crime. Darnell Hartsfield and his cousin Romeo Pinkerton are serving life sentences for their role in the murders.
The men have tried to appeal their convictions as Pinkerton claims the "real killers" are still on the run.
