Longview, TX (Longview ISD) — Longview ISD – There’s an app for that!
Longview ISD stakeholders now have a more mobile means of keeping up with school happenings.
The district’s community relations department and Reliance Communications this week unveiled applications for the iPhone and Android platforms. The apps, as they’re commonly known, provide a mobile phone portal to district news and events – essentially everything found on the district’s website, including academic progress reports.
“In talking with parents, we learned that they were almost unanimous in wanting to see school menus and progress reports,” said Adam J. Holland, district media & community relations coordinator. “Our apps offer that and just about everything else found at our website.”
Holland said the new apps are not intended to replace the district’s website, which has logged more than five million viewers since it went live three years ago.
“There are hundreds upon hundreds of (website) documents that I wouldn’t want to read on my cell phone,” Holland said. “At the same time, I’d rather tap a couple of buttons on my phone when it comes to viewing photos, checking out the district calendar or knowing when my daughter’s essay is due.”
The new apps provide access to district news and sports information, school menus and school contacts. Users can also log into Skyward, the portal for parents to access classroom information about their children. Though campuses are also linked through the apps, Holland said Reliance is already working on updates to customize the home screen by campus.
“Parents and the community are increasingly on the go,” said Nate Brogan, Reliance Communications’ vice president of marketing. “We commend the district for recognizing this and for taking steps to engage their stakeholders in this way.”
