"Cleaning for a Reason"
Tyler, Texas (KETK) — — One local cleaning company is giving the gift of a clean house to women in East Texas who really need it. Frances Cowen, 74, of Chapel Hill says ever since 2007 her life hasn't been the same. A breast cancer diagnosis 6 years ago, and more recently, in August; an ovarian cancer diagnosis stopped her in her tracks. Cowan says, "Chemo has taken away so much of my energy; I'm just no longer able to do the things I used to do."
Too ill to go on camera for an interview, Cowen says she still has a long road ahead— full of treatment and surgery, she says, "I just have no energy to function." But one local cleaning service, "You've Got Maids" in Tyler is there to help, they have recently partnered up with the Dallas-based national non-profit program "Cleaning for a Reason."
Owner of “You’ve Got Maids,” Taylor Dison says, "For us to be able to come in and offer them just a little encouragement and clean their house for them, it's just one less think for them to have to worry about." The "Cleaning for a Reason" program cleans the homes of women undergoing cancer treatment—free of charge. "This is just a great way for us to give back to the community,” Dison says.
Cowan's daughter signed her up for the program. Now, once a month, for the next 4 months; a cleaning crew comes in and take some of the burden off of Cowan and her family. Cowan says, it's the little things, like a clean house, that make a big impact on her health "I think it's a great thing they are doing for the community and the Tyler area," she says.
If you are a woman who is undergoing cancer treatment, or if you know someone who is, you can sign up or sign someone else up by visiting the "Cleaning for a Reason" website here: http://www.cleaningforareason.org/
