Henderson — The number of students in Henderson ISD with limited English has increased by almost 70 in the past three years, a district official told trustees Tuesday.
There are 446 students in Henderson ISD classified as Limited English Proficiency (LEP). That’s 13 percent of the district’s total enrollment, Bilingual Coordinator Cathy Hooper told the board.
In the 2011-12 school year, there were 380 LEP students, she said.
While the majority of these students speak Spanish as their primary language, Hooper cautioned that it’s important not to view Hispanic students and LEP students as different names for the same group of students.
