Tyler , TX (KETK) — The study International Assessment of Adult Competencies showed Americans scored below the international average in math, reading, and problem solving skills. Researchers tested more than 100,000 between the ages of 16 and 65.
Not only did Americans score poorly, but the results show a large gap between our nation's high and low skilled workers.
We asked some East Texans their thoughts on these results..
"Because they're not teaching spelling, they're not teaching writing, and um they're just trying to do testing.. to keep up with testing."
"They let them play games and watch TV. more than study and do their homework and stuff... and activities...it's a shame, breaks my heart."
"I really don't think they are... as far as I'm concerned."
