Longview — Pine Tree Independent School District will spend a half-million dollars to increase security at each of its campuses this school year.
The moves, which include upgrades to facilities and additional personnel, pleased Eric Cabrera, parent of a student at Pine Tree Intermediate School.
“I believe its a great deal for the kids and the families,” he said. “I feel safe leaving my son here.”
Judy Downing, the district’s chief financial officer, said $200,000 has been set aside to pay for campus security personnel, with $120,000 dedicated to the presence of resource officers at the high school and junior high. The remaining $80,000 has been budgeted for off-duty officers now on each campus.
