Longview, Texas (FOX51) —
PTISD’s new Pirate Stadium will be the site of the UIL Marching Band Competition for 31 conference 1A and 2A High School Bands in UIL Music Region 4. The bands will compete on October 23, 2013 – 10:00 a.m., to 4:00 p.m., and October 24, 2013 – 10:00 a.m., to 1:00 p.m.
The bands will be awarded Division Ratings, based on their performance of music and marching fundamentals as outlined by the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. Bands receiving the First Division Rating will quality for advancement to the Area “C” Marching Competition with First Division rated bands from other UIL Music Regions at SFASU in Nacogdoches on October 26. Selected bands from that competition will advance to the UIL State Marching Band Contest in the Alamo Dome, San Antonio.
Local area bands performing at Pirate Stadium will include: Big Sandy and Harleton in conference 1A; Hughes Springs, Union Grove, Elysian Fields, Ore City, Sabine, Hawkins, New Diana and White Oak in conference 2A. Others joining them will be from the Greenville, Paris and Texarkana areas of Music Region 4. Click here  for a full list of participating schools.
Judges for the Competition are Randy Leifeste, from San Marcos, Mike Lipe, from Wylie and Gary Monroe, from Mesquite.
Mark Melton and the Pine Tree Band Staff, with band students and parent boosters will serve as hosts for the visiting bands. Director of Region 4 UIL Music Competitions is Don Lawler.
Conference 3A and 4A Bands will compete at Sam Parker Field, Mt. Pleasant High School, October 15.
