HENDERSON, TEXAS (KETK) — The world's best bull riders are coming to Henderson this week.
The Rusk County Rodeo Association is having their Annual rodeo, this is a big event.
Last year more than 3000 people filled the rodeo arena for the opening night.
I spoke to the rodeo committee and they are expecting more this year.
3 nights bull riding will entertain thousands of people, East Texans and people across the country coming into town for the 20th Annual Rusk County PRCA rodeo Thursday, October 17th through the 19th.
"Open night there are about 4,000 people here, it's Bar None Cowboy Church night, they pay for the rodeo," says Ron Yandle, Rodeo Chairman.
The rodeo will be at the Rusk County Youth Expo in Henderson.
Nights of bull riding, barrel riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, team roping and calf scramble.
"The Rodeo Association and Lions Club put this rodeo on, and the Rusk County Rodeo Association uses all their money for scholarships and the Lions Clubs have several good charities," says Yandle.
The arena director says, We probably bring in between 99-100 thousand for our rodeo a year," says Billy Miller.
All the money raised pays for the event and supports scholarships.
Ron Yandle, Rodeo Chairman says, opening night is free and the event starts at 7:30 p.m. each night.
"There's a whole other side of putting these rodeos on, the committees, and the people in town that help back up these things for the scholarships and everything, it's a lot of work," says Miller.
The rodeo committee tells us. this rodeo is a blessing to the county and to the people of East Texas.
