Nacogdoches, Texas (KETK) — The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Nacogdoches man for aggravated assault at his home on Highway 7 East.
David Buchanan, 59, was arrested for aggravated assault (family violence), which is a second degree felony.
Sheriff Jason Bridges tells KETK deputies responded to the Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital Monday night in reference to an assault victim.
The victim had been severely beaten, had internal injuries and several broken bones. The victim is now in the Intensive Care Unit a result of the sustained injuries.
Deputies were able to identify the suspect in the assault who is the husband to the victim.
Officials went to Buchanan's house around 1:00 a.m., Tuesday morning, but were unable to locate the suspect. A warrant for the was obtained around 8:30 a.m., for aggravated assault. Investigators went back to the house around 10:00 a.m., and found Buchanan sleeping when he was taken into custody.
Sheriff Bridges said the details of this case are still sketchy as to why the assault took place, but he believes alcohol and mental health issues may have played a factor into the beating.
The victim was able to escape last night by crawling out of a window then calling a family member who took her to the hospital.
Buchanan was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.
