Tyler , TX (KETK) — It's that time of year again... the Lone Star U.S.A.. Celebration honoring veterans.
This is their second annual event. It runs Thursday through Sunday. The Friday edition of these activities took place at the K.E. Bushman Celebration center in Bullard.
Friday's event featured outdoor displays including a Vietnam veteran wall, depictions of past presidents, and a prisoner of war booth.
"The event is designed to honor those who protect, provide, and serve and their families. We want to let veterans know how much we appreciate for what they've done for us both past and present" - Julianne Sanford.
Hundreds of veterans, children, and families gathered together to celebrate our country's heroes.
"The other goal is to allow the military community and the first response community to come together, have a good time, and also interact and connect with each other"- Sanford.
Children from the Bullard Elementary School joined in on the festivities.
"It was very, very moving and powerful to see these children learn about the cost of freedom" -Sanford.
Various booths provided outdoor displays to help children visualize pieces of United States history.
This year's event is expected to draw over fifteen hundred people, but today it was all about the children celebrating and honoring their veterans.
Some of the upcoming events this weekend include a golf tournament, poker run, and Field Chapel Service.
