Longview — The Austin-based architect responsible for designing a new city animal center is doing so with the Humane Society of Northeast Texas’ property just off H.G. Mosley Parkway in mind.
City spokesman Shawn Hara said considering the Kermit Street property, a 4.3-acre piece of land near Lear Park, gave Larry Connolly some parameters for the project, but that no official decision on the location of a new facility has been made.
“The preliminary design work is as though it is on that property,” Hara said.
The property was one of several discussed by Mayor Jay Dean’s Animal Shelter Task Force when it met for 90 days last fall after skyrocketing admission and euthanasia rates at the city’s current animal shelter which is run by the Humane Society of Northeast Texas.
