Tyler , TX (KETK) — The U.S.. Census placed Tyler among the top ten cities in the nation with the highest increase in income. In just 5 years the average per capita income jumped a whopping 14.5 percent.
Coincidentally, Tyler's "Industry Growth Initiative" was also launched 5 years ago in 2007. According to Tom Mullins, the President of the Chamber of Commerce said, "Tyler's done some things right in the last 15-20 years to help establish higher incomes".
The key elements of this plan involve higher education and technology start ups.
Technology guru Jim Nipp, President of the software company "Genesis", has it's world headquarters here in Tyler.
Nipp says, "Having a growing booming tech company right here is awesome".
These technology companies directly benefit from the University of Texas at Tyler. In fact, the Genesis company hires 30-40% of their work force straight from U-T graduates .
This combination of higher education and tech companies compliments the overall Tyler lifestyle through this public and private partnership.
Also among the top ten were Chico, California; Greeley, Colorado; Bellingham, Washington; Yorba Linda, California; Norman, Oklahoma; Gainesville, Florida; Brownsville, Texas; Syracuse, New York; and New Orleans, Louisiana.
