Lindale, Tx (KETK) — The city of Lindale is excited to reveal their new venues in December.
A farmers market, park and the list goes on.
After the last city council meeting, members finally decided on a name.
Lindale residents are anxious for the opening of the Blackberry Square.
"Someplace for people to go to that's here in the city limits in downtown, bring people to the downtown area and places for them to enjoy with their families,"said City Council member Ginger Sims.
Lindale will soon be seeing a new farmers market, an event center, a potential amphitheater and a dog-friendly park.
"One of the things that really stood out was the farmers market. There was a real need for that and for other park areas just for places families could go and enjoy the community,'' said Sims.
The city council wanted to keep the heritage of Lindale alive in the name of this new area.
"We have a rich history in blackberry production and so we're just trying to remember the history of that and embrace that for not only remembering the past but making sure people in the future know of that as well."
The red brick building behind the library will be known as the Pickers Pavilion at the Blackberry Square.
The old canning company will hold the farmer's market and be open for public and private events.
Another canning company and old city buildings will transform into the Harvest Event Center, for different business and community events.
Lindale business owner Darla Sanders said this is another great addition to bring more people to the city of Lindale.
"We're trying to revitalize the downtown area and with the Pink Pistol across the street from us and now this, I think it's going to be a great success," said Sanders.
