Hawkins — Tryon and Eastman roads came together Monday with the opening of the East Hawkins Parkway extension.
The half-mile, three-lane road will be home to a major independent living facility, an assisted living facility and apartments.
“One of the neat things about this whole project it is another example of what we on the council like to do, and that is a public/private partnership,” Mayor Jay Dean said.
Dean along with Longview Councilmen Wayne Frost, Gary Smith and Richard Manley and a host of city staff attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m., officially opening the stretch of land to the public.
