Sabine, Tx (KETK) — An East Texas man has turned his passion into profit, transforming his backyard workshop into a mini-garage.
Clay Carter has been building these fully functional model rock crawlers for two years.
But this June, he was able to start doing this full time.
Carter says it's all about the detail, and some of these models can cost up to three-thousand dollars, but he says business is great, with most of his orders coming from outside the state and even overseas, and the similarities to the real vehicles go far beyond the paint job.
He has already made deals with current vehicle manufacturers, who send him actual vehicle parts in their models, just at a much smaller size.
Carter also donates some of models to active and retired veterans.
He says their sacrifice allows him to follow his passion, and support his family in the process.
