Henderson — A refinery for Rusk County is once again in the pipeline as a new partnership has identified a shuttered facility it plans move to the West Rusk County Consolidated ISD.
This second stab at landing a large industrial operation revives hopes of jobs and a broadened tax base that came up dry by the first of this year. The Gregg County Refinery partnership had hoped to dismantle and move a closed refinery on Premiere Road in Longview, but financial aid deadlines and environmental hurdles frustrated that project.
A new organization, Rusk County Refining, formed in the wake of that failure and has found a Shell refinery in Puerto Rico that was still operating as recently as 2008.
West Rusk schools Superintendent Tommy Alexander said Monday evening he was encouraged by the reborn proposition.
