Border guards in blue berets on Crockett Street?
OK, sounds stupid to me, too, but there are folks who hear the words United Nations, and their tin foil hats start to vibrate.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, maintains a list of unique world places that are considered historical or artistic treasures.
They are called World Heritage Sites.
In the US they include the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Carlsbad Caverns and more.
And other than getting a little money occasionally, and being protected during time of war in that country, it is simply an honor bestowed on the host country.
But some worry that it means more.
The shrine to Texas Independence, the Alamo, has been nominated to be included ALONG WITH Notre Dame, the Pyramids and the entire city of Jerusalem, on the list of honorees.
And one Tea Party member in San Antonio is worried. He says the UN may be taking over the Alamo.
Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson says, it simply ridiculous.
In fact, he called it "horse hockey."
He says it simply designates a site as a desirable place for international tourists to visit.
He even says, we might make money from it.
Patterson assures all Texans that the National Park Service still runs Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon.
And Texas still manages the Alamo.
