Tyler , TX (KETK) — Wednesday, the "Healthy Aging Coalition of East Texas" invited congressman Louie Gohmert to speak on the Affordable Care Act.
Seniors, health care professionals, and hospital administrators, gathered to ask questions on how this new law will affect them.
Gohmert's main concern is seniors.
The main point, Gohmert says Obama care cut $716 billion from Medicare.
Gohmert's priority is avoiding a system where seniors do not receive the medical attention they deserve, right when they need it.
Gohmert says, "Here in the U.S. if the doctor says you need bypass surgery, you get it that day. In England they're trying to get the average down to 10 months".
He believes the only way to prevent this is to fight the Affordable Care Act, rather than to just let the system collapse on itself.
Gohmert says, "In my heart I just can't knowingly say, let's let people suffer and then they'll come running. I just can't knowingly do that".
During the government shut down, Gohmert believes the Republicans made every effort to compromise on the Affordable Care Act.
He says, "Harry Reid and President Obama were determined they wanted a shutdown. They think the Republicans would be blamed even though the Senate did nothing to negotiate. Nothing. Zero".
He encourages those in neighboring states to talk to their congressman and fight.
