(NBC News) — The battle over the claim to the tallest building in the United States took place Tuesday morning.
The contestants were the new One World Trade Center, which claimed to be 1,776 feet.
However, the city of Chicago claimed that the Willis Tower, which stands at 1,450 feet, might technically be taller.
The issue at hand was whether the 408 foot spire on top of the World Trade Center tower should count toward it's total height.
The Chicago-based The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat ruled on the issue Tuesday morning, ultimately deciding that the spire on One World Trade Center was enough to allow it to claim the title.
