Tyler TX (KETK) — Bergfeld Park in Tyler is getting a facelift.
A new playground, amphitheater and walking trails.
"People are really excited because this park is near and dear to their hearts," said Director of Parks and Recreation Stephanie Rollings.
One of Tyler's historic parks will see some changes.
"I think the park is beautiful as it is but to have a redo would be fantastic," said Tyler resident Carolyn Davis.
Rollings says this park has not had a renovation in awhile.
And it was long overdue.
"It was something that as this facility was aging it needed to be upgraded."
The idea to renovate the park on Broadway and 4th came from the neighbors.
"The neighbors actually came forward to the city and said hey if you guys will spilt the cost with us then we will raise the funds to do the master plan so it was a unique partnership and an opportunity to move this forward," said Rollings.
The neighbors will fund half the master plan and the city will handle the rest.
Rollings said there is no exact date to when the renovations will start and finish.
But, they hope to start that in the beginning of next year.
"So many people are excited about this project and we can't wait to get started."
Even though the daily walkers still enjoy strolling around the historic park, they said some upgrades would be nice.
"I'm excited for any improvements here I think it would be nice to modernize it a little bit," said Tyler resident Elliott Whitley.
The new park will cost about two million dollars.
