Tyler , TX (KETK) — "Well I like to go to the park and run a little.. ok, would you rather do that or play a video game? play a video games," said elementary student Eli Carter.
The American Heart Association says children's fitness has declined worldwide in the last three decades.
"I mean 32 years ago kids were outside, kids were playing, kids were involved in athletics after school, now... you don't see that," said P.E. teacher Dyann Kemp.
Kemp has been a physical education teacher for more than 30 years, and thinks this new research is true because of today's technology.
"I think our generation was a lot more fit, we did not have the video games and computers when we were going to school, so we played outside... kids today, they don't know really how to play outside," said Kemp.
Experts say children should be getting atleast sixty minutes of physical activity a day.
Grace Community P.E. teacher Dawn Bridges agrees.
"The more green time kiddos have, outside playing time, the healthier, more fit they seem to be," said Bridges.
She also thinks the parents need to lead by example with a healthy lifestyle.
"If they see that its fun, and they see parents doing it, more is taught by what we do than what we tell them."
