Longview — The number of Texans catching a bus, train or plane to visit family for the Thanksgiving holiday this year is expected to decrease slightly from a year ago.
Longview resident Frank Herbert said his family usually travels to his mother’s house in New Orleans once every three years, but will be staying home for Thanksgiving this year.
“It’s not the cost of travel,” he said. “Although that gets considerable, that wouldn’t be the factor. It would be more about family obligations. We have a lot of pets and that would be the main factor. Whether we were going to bring all our pets down there. I’m from a big family so it would depend whether there would be room for us at my mother’s house or my sister’s house.”
While weather might play a role in some travelers’ plans, officials said they didn’t expect it to have too much of an impact.
