Tyler , TX (KETK) — Thanksgiving is a time for families to come together, and endulge in delicious meals. Stuffing our bellies full of turkey, dressing, and pecan pie. However, its also the busiest time for plumbers. Experts say business goes up fifty percent on Thanksgiving weekend alone.
"I'd say whoevers on emergency duty on thanksgiving usually works a good day," said McIntyre Plumbing Dennis Katruska. Katruska said they usually have eight to fifteen home calls for drain stoppages on Thanksgiving Day.
"We get a lot of drain stoppages during that period of time, especially kitchen sink drain stoppages," said Katruska.
Here's what some east Texans said about their drainage trouble on the holiday.
"Doing some cooking and threw it in the disposal and the sink backed up."
"Accidents happen so you just have to take it in the holiday spirit and go on."
"Tried to come and get someone to clean the drain, but it was hard because you know it was a holiday."
Mcintyre Plumbing advises residents to put grease in a separate container, not in your sink, put small amounts down the garbage disposal, and always use cold water when draining. However, when it comes to the sweets, Katruska says,"I think that if you have a lot of pecan pie, what you need to do is and its left over, don't put it down the drain... call me and i'll eat it!"
