Mary Martin was one of about 750 East Texans served a Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday at the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission.
“It’s not only the people that live here that they are serving,” Martin said. “They are serving outsiders and the community. These are people that are hungry and need something to eat. I think that is a beautiful thing.”
Eric Burger, executive director for Hiway 80 Rescue Mission in Longview, said the effort took the donation of 80 turkeys, 200 pounds of potatoes, 60 pans of dressing and seven cases of “big” can green beans. Bethel Baptist Church members baked a majority of 100 pies that were enjoyed Wednesday.
