Tyler , TX (KETK) — "It's one of those things that has really been a blessing," said Mike Powell, President and C.E.O. Of Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels is a faith based program celebrating 40 years of providing East texans with meals, and Thanksgiving is no exception.
Renee Ray has been volunteering all of her life, and will be spending part of holiday delivering food to those in need. "Some of them let me come in and visit with them, you know, they're just so sweet, they're so appreciative, and they thank me so.. it makes my day good," said Ray.
The volunteers will be taking more than one hundred boxes full of hot meals to Tyler residents that would, otherwise, be spending the holiday alone. "If we don't go there, sometimes they don't see anybody all day and that's hard," said Ray.
Robert L. Dewberry Sr. has been a client since 2000, and the former preacher is so thankful for the Thanksgiving meal they provide."I feel like this, everybody who helps sponsor meals on wheels is surely being blessed by the lord," said Dewberry. "I appreciate meals on wheels, not only what is has done for me, but others I see it helping throughout East Texas."
"We've been blessed with our meals on wheels program to take care of all of the needs of people we have in our community," said Powell.
