Longview, TX — A tan Ford Super Duty pulled up to the Longview Police Department Monday morning, its ample bed stacked with toys.
“That’s what they made the Super Duty for — Santa’s sleigh,” Kevin Richardson quipped as he and wife, Julie, stepped from the pickup and went inside to announce their unexpected donation to the department’s Blue Santa Christmas toy drive.
The couple were directed to the backside property room entrance where Connie Bates, police intern Ebonie Jordan and others were waiting.
“This is great,” Bates said. “Is (all this) just y’all?”
It was. This is the second year the Longview sandwich shop owners have played Santa for the police-run effort to ensure children find at least one toy under the tree on Christmas morning.
The couple joined the Blue Santa effort last year after learning of the theft of toys meant for poor children.
