Longview — Heavy precipitation fell toward the end of the Longview Christmas Parade on Thursday, but fear of freezing rain prompted a paltry turnout for the annual event.
“We checked the weather all the way until 10 o’clock and saw that there was just a small chance of drizzle up until late tonight,” said Kayla Cantey, convention meetings and Main Street manager with the Longview Chamber of Commerce. “In years past we have had the parade in drizzle.”
Chamber officials decided about 10:30 a.m. that the parade would continue despite a cold, wet forecast while other East Texas cities, such as Tyler, Henderson and Gilmer, postponed or canceled their parades. Gilmer officials announced they had decided not to hold their parade about 6 p.m., when the parade was scheduled to begin.
