Gilmer — A horse and carriage will be available for use Saturday at Gilmer’s Yulefest, and soon will be a regular sight in the city.
Clay Voyles, owner of the Sacred Spur Carriage Co. in East Mountain, asked permission from Gilmer to use the historical transportation in the city limits and hopes to make it a staple of downtown.
“Being a small town so many people don’t venture to try to bring something back in to the community,” Voyles said. “Hopefully what we are going to do will help bring people back to the square, help the businesses in the square ... that helps all of the community bring everybody back and spend their money locally.”
The Gilmer City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday establishing requirements to operate a horse-drawn carriage service in the city after Voyles asked permission to start the service in the city.
