Kilgore, Texas (Longview News-Journal) —
There is a winter wonderland in Kilgore filled with giant snowmen, Santa and his elves, but the at the heart of the attraction is what members of a local church would call the true reason for the season — a re-enactment of the night of Jesus’ birth.
“In our home we celebrate Santa Claus, but we keep it at the forefront that it is about Christ’s birth,” Todd McElmurry said Thursday night as he portrayed the role of Gabriel in Forest Home Baptist Church’s drive-thru Nativity scene.
“So it’s really neat to do something like this because you get to bring both traditions together. You have people that come to see the Santa Claus thing, and they get witnessed to as they go through with the Nativity.”
The free attraction opened Thursday and continues from 6 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday at the church at 15746 CR 173 North in Kilgore.
