Houston — Matt Schaub will start at quarterback against Denver on Sunday because Case Keenum has ligament damage in his right thumb, Texans interim coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday.
Phillips said Keenum suffered the injury when he was sacked for the fourth and last time in Sunday’s 25-3 loss at Indianapolis. Keenum’s thumb was in a splint today at practice, and he couldn’t participate.
Last season, Schaub played one of the best games of his career at Denver, where he threw four touchdown passes – despite losing a piece of his ear – in the Texans’ victory over the Broncos.
