Arlington — KETK's Phil Kuchinsky covered the Kilgore-Carthage state championship game at the home of the Cowboys.
Carthage won 34-23.
The Ragin' Red never led.
But the Bulldogs made it close down the stretch.
17,000 East Texans traveled to Arlington for the game
"It speaks volumes for the amount of talent in East Texas," said Kilgore coach Mike Wood. "The small town environment is unique. They love these kids."
"There was a great crowd," Wood added. "The competition in those districts is so great that if you can get into the playoffs you'll have a chance to make a run."
