Longview — The temperature drop and nonstop rain didn’t dampen the Christmas spirit Saturday afternoon as nearly 500 people sat down with strangers for the first of a two-part family feast.
The crowd gathered at the Longview Fairgrounds Expo Hall for the faith-based Family Christmas Party hosted by the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission.
“We do a lot of different things at Christmas,” said Eric Burger, executive director of the mission. “With this we can share the true meaning of Christmas.”
The meal — ham, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls and cake — was served to the sounds of Christmas and gospel music from a band as outside temperatures hovered near 50 degrees.
