Tyler, Texas (KETK) — The City of Tyler’s Code Enforcement Department reminds the public that it is unlawful to dump trash such as tires, household garbage, brush, appliances or furniture within Tyler City limits.
Non-commercial dumping of less than five pounds is a Class C Misdemeanor which can result in fines up to $2,000.
Since the inception of the Code Enforcement Department on January 1, 2008m there have been 1,579 illegal dumping cases.
Over the last two years the purchases of surveillance cameras and deployment of them have resulted in 46 citations issued, compared to only three total over the previous years combined. While this is a substantial increase, it is still a major problem within the city.
To date, the Code Enforcement Department has a 100 percent conviction rate in Municipal Court involving illegal dumping cases.
Rather than dumping waste illegally, residents should call the Tyler Solid Waste Department at (903) 531-1388 to request a bulky item special pickup.
If you observe illegal dumping please notify Code Enforcement by calling (903) 531-1312, or fill out a violation report on the Code Enforcement website at http://www.cityoftyler.org/Departments/CodeEnforcement/ToReportCodeViola... .
Please include the address of the violation, what the violation is and a contact number in case more information is needed. All reports are anonymous; no names or numbers will be given out.
