Longview — With the number of people showing signs of flu-like illness up across the state, people in Longview are making a mad dash to local pharmacies for vaccinations.
Vicki Taylor received a flu shot Monday at CVS Pharmacy in Longview because they weren’t offered at her job this year.
“I work at the courthouse in Daingerfield and usually somebody comes to the courthouse and gives us our shot,” she said. “But this year for some reason it didn’t happen. I’ve been kind of putting it off but I get it every year before the flu peaks in February.”
The most recent data from the Texas Department of State Health Services showed that 106 health care providers reported 24,309 people visited the doctor in the past two weeks. Of those, 2,248 of the patients showed signs of influenza-like illness. Of the patients exhibiting signs of flu-like illness, 881 were between the ages of 5 and 24 while 773 were ages 25-49.
