CHAPEL HILL, TEXAS (KETK) — The Chapel Hill Baseball Association held a softball tournament at the Chapel Hill Sports Complex on Saturday. The tournament organized to raise money for the Hester family of Chapel Hill who lost everything in a house early January, except for each other.
We're told it was an electrical problem that destroyed the home.
Bobby and Dixie Hester tell us God was with them when the fire broke out. "He did something, he woke us up and told us to get out of the house," said Bobby Hester.
The Hesters say, sometimes things just happen in life that make you realize something. "It's just sticks and stones, and what's important to us is that we have each other and that we have neighbors, friends and a community like this.
Rocky Reynolds is a member of the Chapel Hill Baseball Association and says, when he heard what happened to the Hesters, the community acted quickly to help them with whatever they needed. "All the money raised out here will go to the Hester family."
East Texans joined a team for $225 collectively. Many people dropped off toiletries, clothes, cookware, furniture and money. The Hesters tell us, they are so thankful and want to thank the community for support, donations, thoughts and prayers.
It was a day of fun, delicious BBQ and spending time with each other.
Bobby Hester says, if he won the lotto and could move anywhere, there's no place he'd rather be than in Chapel Hill. He says he has all he needs, God, his family and wonderful community.
