Wood County Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help to identify suspect(s) in recent mail thefts which have occurred in the Winnsboro area.
The thefts are occurring during the day and involve vehicles driving up to rural mailboxes and simply removing the mail.
If you have any information regarding these mail thefts, call Wood County Crime Stoppers at 903.763.CASH (2274). If your information leads to an arrest or indictment, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious behavior or an unfamiliar vehicle at or near a rural mailbox is asked to record the vehicle description and a license plate number if it can be safely done and call the Wood County Sheriff’s Office at 903.763.2201.
If you have a rural mailbox, there are several steps you can take to avoid being a victim of mail theft.
Use a locking mail box if possible;
Empty your box of mail daily;
- Take outgoing mail to the post office.
