Smith County, Texas (KETK) — An armed robbery suspect who led authorities on a manhunt January 15, has been indicted in Smith County.
Adam Heath Bowers was indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery, Thursday, February 20, and is currently being held in the Smith County Jail on $660,000 bond.
Wednesday, January 15, acting on a tip from the Lindale Police Department, the Smith County Sheriff's Narcotics, Criminal Investigation, K-9, and Patrol Divisions initiated surveillance on Lavender Road just half a mile north of Loop 323 in Tyler in search of Bowers.
The surveillance began at 4:00 p.m. after he was reported to be in that area.
Bowers was wanted on two armed robbery warrants and aggravated assault warrants.
The manhunt for Bowers began near Lavender Road and Red Bird Lane. A DPS helicopter was also used to assist in the search when the chase spilled over into Red Bird Lane.
At 5:40 p.m., that day, Smith County Sheriff's Office saw Bowers enter the woods behind a mobile home park. A Smith County K-9 and two deputies entered the wooded area in an attempt to track him.
Additional units as well as personnel from the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, Texas Rangers, DPS Troopers, Precinct 5 Constables Office, and Lindale Police captured and arrested Bowers after the man hunt that began just north of Tyler between Highway 14 and County Road 35.
The helicopter was instrumental in locating Bowers in the woodead area and led officers to his location.
Bowers was taken into custody without incident.
He was named as the prime suspect in two January 13 robberies. One of a Family Dollar, located at 3505 Frankston Highway and the Lindale Wal-Mart .
Two men and one woman were captured on the Wal-Mart surveillance system around 5:30 a.m. When an employee confronted the suspects, one of the alleged robbers reportedly pulled a gun. Officials are working to identify the rest of the people involved.
Bowers, who was considered armed and dangerous, was captured around 6:45 p.m., January 15.
