Tyler ISD — Tyler ISD educators recently completed the Friends of Texas Public Schools (FOTPS) Ambassador Training Academy, a program created to change the conversation about Texas public schools from the inside out. The professional development program addresses the attitude and mindset of those working in public schools, helping each one step up as ambassadors for themselves, their classrooms, campuses, district and profession. It is designed to unite campus and district staff around the organization’s purpose and to strengthen the culture of brotherhood among those who work within the organization.
A group of roughly 50 educators representing Tyler ISD campuses and departments came together for four two-hour sessions. The group was challenged to think differently about their role as educators; to identify forces that weaken trust and confidence in public education and establish strategies to restore pride, hope, optimism and confidence throughout the community.
Participants also learned how the power of professional unity profoundly impacts educators and why this culture of brotherhood is an essential element of any successful organization.
“I’ve truly enjoyed my experience in learning how to be a better ambassador for Tyler ISD,” administrative assistant, Artimese Lawrence, said. “One of the aspects shared was brotherhood. The fireman example showed me that regardless of your background or beliefs, your commitment to help others must always be maintained.”
Tyler ISD plans to establish ambassadors in the community as well. The District will offer three one-day ambassador training sessions this spring. For more information on how to participate, contact Dawn Parnell, Tyler ISD director of communications and public relations, at 903-262-1064.
Other school districts across the state that have completed the Ambassador Training Academy include Birdville ISD, Marshall ISD, Lewisville ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and Pearland ISD.
